His maps delineate his own classification of the vineyards of the Cte d'Or, building on the work of his predecessors, Morelot (1831), Lavalle (1855) and Aubertin (1892). He used the same ranking system as Laval, although he made slight changes and added some vineyards Lavalle had neglected. Vineyards which he classified as Tetes de Cuves & 1res Cuves
